January 31: Daytona Beach is experiencing an extremely large cloud of smoke due to a 500-acre control burn in northern Volusia County. The breezy west-northwest winds this afternoon are causing the smoke to move through Ormond Beach toward Daytona. Around 4 p.m. today the fire spread beyond the containment zone resulting in two fires, one four-acres and one seven-acres. Daytona Beach Fire Department quickly contained the fires and controlled the situation despite the winds.

There have been no injuries reported and no evacuation orders have been given. Officials say there will be smoke in the area for the next few days.
