A Deltona man who opened fire on a vehicle after being paid with counterfeit money for a marijuana transaction was apprehended Thursday afternoon when authorities received multiple reports of gunshots near Providence Boulevard and East Chapel Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene around 3 p.m., deputies discovered an unoccupied SUV with bullet holes on the passenger side and a flat tire. Witnesses in the area informed law enforcement that two young men fled from the vehicle following the shooting. Deputies successfully located and verified that the individuals were the intended targets, fortunately escaping unharmed.

Investigators learned that the 17 and 20-year-old victims had attempted to purchase marijuana from an individual they connected with on Instagram using a counterfeit $100 bill. As they drove away with their purchase, they suddenly heard the sound of breaking glass and multiple gunshots fired at their vehicle. While unaware of the assailant's identity, the victims were able to provide a description.

Detectives collaborated with the Sheriff's Office Juvenile Services director, who supplied valuable leads on potential persons of interest in the area. Their inquiry led them to 19-year-old Raymon Plummer, residing near the crime scene on West Chapel Drive, approximately 511 feet from where detectives discovered seven spent shell casings and shattered glass on East Chapel Drive.

During a photo lineup, the 17-year-old victim unequivocally identified Plummer as the shooter. Consequently, Plummer was located and arrested by the Crime Suppression Team. He now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

As of the time of this report, Plummer is in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail on a bond amounting to $30,000.
