Town Hall Meetings Aim to Enhance Volusia County Residents’ Hurricane Preparedness

Volusia County is set to host a series of town hall-style meetings to bolster hurricane preparedness within the community. These sessions will provide residents with essential information and resources to effectively prepare for and respond to hurricanes.

The meetings will cover a wide range of topics crucial for hurricane readiness, including understanding hurricanes' nature and impact, assembling emergency kits and supplies, knowing evacuation routes and zones, and preparing homes and properties for the potential impact. Additionally, safety tips during the storm and the importance of communication plans will be discussed to ensure residents are fully prepared for the hurricane season.

"In the face of a hurricane, knowledge is as critical as supplies in your emergency kit," said Emergency Management Director Clint Mecham. "We've designed these meetings to arm you with that knowledge, addressing everything from evacuation routes to how to effectively communicate with family members during a storm."

Scheduled meetings will take place at the following locations and times:

  • DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.- 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

  • Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.- 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.
