Tragic lightning strike claims life of a roofer in Deltona.

A roofer died Monday afternoon after being struck by lightning on Sterling Pointe Drive in Deltona.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim, 24-year-old Edvin J. Velasquez Cinto, was framing the roof of a home when a sudden and powerful lightning bolt contacted him, causing him to lose his balance and plummet to the concrete below.

Paramedics transported Cinto to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations and on-site assessments strongly suggest that the cause of this tragic incident was a lightning strike; however, an official cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.
