To enhance community safety, the Orange City Police Department (OCPD) is reintroducing its highly acclaimed women's self-defense classes. These monthly classes provide valuable personal safety insights, introduce fundamental self-defense techniques, and empower women with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves.

The upcoming three classes are scheduled for January 20, 2024, February 17, 2024, and March 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Orange City Council Chambers, conveniently located at 201 N. Holly Avenue.

Led by the Orange City Police Department’s Defensive Tactics Coordinator, Sergeant Rolly Cavida, the two-hour women's self-defense class covers a spectrum of topics, including self-defense tactics, situational awareness, risk reduction strategies, and methods for avoiding potential confrontations. Sergeant Cavida, a seasoned instructor, brings a wealth of expertise to the program, ensuring participants gain practical skills that can contribute to their safety.

"Violent crimes often stem from opportunistic situations, and by eliminating these opportunities, we significantly reduce the risk of attacks. This program stands as an additional effort by the police department to combat violence against women," said Orange City Police Chief Wayne M. Miller.

The Women's Self-Defense Classes are limited to 25 participants per session and are exclusively open to women aged 18 and above. Notably, attendance for these classes is free, making this a valuable public service initiative by the Orange City Police Department. Attendees are encouraged to register promptly to secure their spots.

To register for the classes, interested individuals can contact Sergeant Rolly Cavida via email at rcavida@orangecityfl.gov or by phone at 386-851-7561.
