Single-vehicle crash on 17-92 claims the life of DeBary man.

Johnson Kennedy III, a 61-year-old resident of DeBary, lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on South Charles R. Beall Boulevard (U.S. Highway 17-92) over the weekend.

According to a release, the incident occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 7:20 a.m. Kennedy was driving his Hyundai southbound on U.S. Highway 17-92, near Valencia Road, when the vehicle crossed the road for reasons unknown to investigators. The car then hit a curb in the northbound lane and continued driving along the sidewalk.

The vehicle continued traveling South on the northbound sidewalk, colliding with a light post before finally stopping after hitting a large flowerpot north of DeBary Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, Sheriff's Deputies and Volusia County EMS attempted to save Kennedy's life. Despite their best efforts, Kennedy passed away at a local hospital at around 8:15 a.m.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with an autopsy pending.
